3000 acres of forest land were destroyed in the massive forest fire in Uttarakhand. Despite the fire being contained in several part of the hill state, the blaze has been spreading outside Uttarakhand even entering states of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir as well. The NDRF said that the fires in 70% of areas has already been doused as the Army, Air Force and the three teams of NDRF and 6000 fire fighters are working round the clock to save the forest. The NDRF Director said that the fire is expected to be contained in few days. M17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force has been deployed in the state to carry water from the Bhimtal Lake to douse the raging flames. The fire fighting operations were stalled for sometime due to the low visibility as result of thick fumes of smoke emerging from the forest fire.
