In July 1990, an expedition to Lenin Peak, one of the highest mountains in the Pamir range, turned into a nightmare. Forty-five seasoned climbers, including members of the Leningrad Mountaineering Club and international teams, settled at Camp Two, known as the Frying Pan, unaware of the lurking danger. The night began with snowfall like none they’d seen before, and as darkness cloaked the mountain, the ground trembled without warning. An avalanche of staggering proportions swept through, burying everything in its path within seconds.
