Genetics play a part in risk for cancer, but they also have a role in what kind of treatment you receive and how successful it is. Analyzing the genetics of a tumor reveal its individual mutations and treatment approaches designed to target those mutations. If the tumor has mutations for which there is no standard treatment, the analysis will identify what new therapies, some in clinical trial stage, could work effectively. This video explains how Stanford doctors use the genetics of each tumor to craft very personalized treatment.
