Black eye is also called as ecchymosis. Any injury to the forehead or to the eye or around the eye leads to blood clot formation around the lids, maybe the upper lid or the lower lids. These are the very sensitive or the most dependant part of the forehead.so blood trickles down and accumulates in the upper lid or the lower lid. This over a period of time may turn black in colour. This is called as a black eye or ecchymosis. If the eye is not involved, one need not treat this condition. Immediately following the injury, cold compresses or cold packs decreases the chance of developing a black eye. If a person develops black eye, there are medications available to decrease or help in the faster absorption of the blood along with vitamin C tablets.
