Despite its challenges relating to safety and downtime, welding is still the most recognized method of bonding. In this video we are showing #howtobondmetalbrackets to a metal structure without welding. We also show what happens to the internal lining of this tank when we use welding side by side with cold bonding.

In this short video, you will learn how to successfully bond using a solvent free, 100% solids and #fastcuring Belzona composite material and you will uncover why #coldbonding is fast becoming the method of choice across a range of industries.
As you can see at the start of the video, the tank lining stated to burn during the welding process. For that reason, the application was terminated. Other issues commonly encountered with welding include:
1. HAZ and stress relieving
2. Cavities behind weld patches and brackets
3. Bi-metallic corrosion
4. Existing heat sensitive coatings/linings
In the next part of the video, you will see a simple demonstration of Belzona cold bonding technology and uncover some of the key benefits this method boasts in comparison to welding.
Materials Used:
To bond this bracket, we used Belzona 1212 and Belzona 9111 (Cleaner Degreaser)

How-to Guide:
Step 1: Prepare the entire bond area of the tank wall and the bracket using a grinder.
Step 2: Mask off and thoroughly clean bond area.
Step 3: Mix and apply Belzona 1212 with a stiff bristled brush in a thin layer to the tank wall pressing hard to ensure the material fills the profile.

Step 4: Apply the Belzona material to the entire area of the bracket creating a peak in the centre.
Step 5: Bond the bracket onto the tank with force making sure Belzona material is squeezed out of the sides.
Step 6: With an applicator, remove the excess material to ensure an aesthetically pleasing finish once the masking tape is removed.
During this application, thermal imaging inside the tank showed temperatures of 27°C (80°F) which is safe for tank lining and its contents. In comparison, a welding application reaches minimum temperatures or 1600°C between (2912°F).
Key benefits of Belzona cold bonding technology:
• There is no risk of sparks or electrical hazards and no need for hot work permits.
• Fast and simple in-situ application without the need for special equipment makes cold bonding ideal for emergency repairs and challenging application areas, where access is restricted.
• There is no need for on-site machining, stress relieving and post weld heat treatment.
• Cold bonding adhesives can conform to irregular shapes and substrates, filling the void between the surfaces. This ensures 100% contact which enhances load bearing capability.
