Kesariya Balam ~ The land of dreams and sand~
One of Rajasthan's most popular folk songs, “Keseriya balam” can almost be called an anthem of the Thar Desert, welcoming the traveler to the land of Rajasthan.
Though the song is about a woman's love, it used to be only sung by men only telling us the following:
In olden times, when a husband retuned victoriously to his home from the battle field, his wife would sing this song as a welcome."Kesariya balam" refers to the one who wears the saffron color turban. Kesariya, the saffron color represents sacrifice, purity and bravery and symbolizes the Rajput clan - the Hindu military caste. Today Mame Khan's Kesariya Balam is considered to be Rajasthans anthem.
