Why Shikara than a houseboat?
Alleppey is a labyrinth of narrow canals, inlets, and inland waterways which in all their glory display, not just the absolute gorgeousness of nature but also that of the simple life of rural villages on their banks whose lives and livelihoods are dependent on these waters.
Unlike the popular houseboats, Shikara boats can navigate through these narrow canals taking you into the heart of this action. They are also a budget-friendly option to explore the backwaters of Alleppey since they are much more affordable in comparison to their much more luxurious counterpart. Shikaras are rented on an hourly basis from an hour to three or four hours depending on how much time you can spare and thus they are ideal for tourists with time constraints.
