Yakutiye Madrasa,
It is located in Erzurum Province in Turkey. It was built in 1310 by Emir Hoca Cemalettin Yakut during the reign of Ilkhanid ruler Olcaytu. It is the largest type of madrasah with a covered courtyard, iwan and portico in Anatolia, and is one of the examples that has been well preserved until today. It is one of the symbols of Erzurum province. It is visited by thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.
It was built by Hoca Yakut Gazani in the name of Gazan Han and Bolugan Hatun during the reign of Ilkhanids in 1310, during the reign of Sultan Olcayto. It has been used as a military warehouse since the end of the century. The madrasa, which was repaired by the General Directorate of Foundations in 1964 and 1973, and by the Ministry of Tourism in 1991, is still used as a museum (Ethnography Museum).The carvings on the stone gate are a valuable masterpiece of art. The domed Madrasa has four iwans and a covered courtyard. The portal is in the middle of the front façade. Two cylindrical retaining towers made of cut stone are placed on both corners of the madrasa façade. Hoca Cemalettin Yakut, Sultan Gazan and He had the Madrasa built with the help he received from Bolugan Hatun from Khorasan.
In the madrasah, there is a portal on the axis of the west façade, a cubic pedestal, cylindrical minaret in the south of the façade, and a corner tower with a cylindrical cone reflecting the same formal features in the north corner. Life is depicted as if it comes out of a water source, a vase, especially in the pointed arched superficial niches shaped by stepped pipe moldings on the side wings of the portal. The tree, two lion figures facing each other under it, and a double-headed eagle figure above it are important in terms of Islamic iconography.
