This is the thirteenth episode of our podcast, Your Weekly Fix.

Today, we ask Dr Rajeev Jayadevan to clarify the science surrounding booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and what we know about Omicron.

While the need to have boosters was already being spoken about pre-Omicron, the conversation has now gained urgency, given the ability of this variant to evade vaccine protection.

So, if you are fully vaccinated, having had two doses of either Covishield or Covaxin, does it not afford any protection at all against Omicron? Does it still protect against severe disease?
Is there indeed a scientific consensus that neither Covishield, known as the Astrazeneca vaccine in the UK and Covaxin, are effective as booster doses ?
