This video covers the basics of preparing a Rhino graphic for laser cutting. In the video, I show how to find and place an image to trace, how to work in multiple layers (to prep the image for etching, hatching, and cutting), as well as how to modify and group objects.
A NOTE ON THE LAYERS: as for the layers (01 [red] to cut; 03 [blue] to etch; and Default [black] for hatch), this is NOT universal. This is the settings we require in our school's Technology Department.
We configured our laser cutters for these settings. We could have made default the cutting layer, or it could have been green or white, but red stands out (and is commonly used to represent danger).
Note also that the last layer in any print job is the cutting layer, we do this last, so we can set up air assist before cutting as a safety feature (and to keep the lenses from getting smoke damage too early).
