Please Don't Eat the Daisies comedy series on NBC was a nice , warm family series and a part of the NBC lineup for its second season in September 1966.
The series, starring Pat Crowley as Joan Nash and Mark Miller as husband Jim Nash. had debuted a year earlier for its maiden voyage during the 1965-66 season. The ratings had been less than spectacular that first season, and the show had been originally slated for cancelation by NBC in the late winter of 1966.
But by divine intervention and some help from Danny Thomas on a series he and Sheldon Leonard had been developing, a final half hour slot on the NBC fall lineup had been opened up at the last minute, and there was Please Don't Eat the Daisies still on the shelf, awaiting a second chance. The series received an order for a second season for fall 1966!
Now on Saturday nights, the second season featured a new hairstyle for Joan Nash (and star Pat Crowley!), and new stories involving a husband and wife and kids living in a big old house.
The series would not go on beyond this second season on NBC, but the series would develop over time into a remarkably solid performer in syndication reruns for generations to remember and enjoy.
We pay tribute to the series today, and to star Pat Crowley today on her birthday!
Happy birthday Pat !
