This is a Universal Prayer applicable for any spiritual or religious context and practice. It focuses on developing and generating love or loving kindness and compassion (metta and karuna), peace (equanimity/upekkha), and light (wisdom, joy: mudita). It is both a healing and protective prayer for oneself and others. If practiced with ease, presence, and sincerity it is very powerful and transformative.
It can be used to engender the sublime qualities of love, peace and light and to radiate these in all directions - to all beings and to the entire Universe. The practice of such a meditation was said by the Buddha to bring innumerable benefits and there are eleven specific benefits mentioned in the Pali Suttas:
𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐚 (𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧)
1. You will sleep easily
2. You will wake easily
3. You will have pleasant dreams
4. People will love you
5. Devas (gods or angels) and animals will love you
6. Devas will protect you
7. External dangers, such as poisons, weapons, and fire, will not harm you
8. Your face will be radiant
9. Your mind will be serene
10. You will die unconfused
11. You will be re-born in happy realms
