Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Kuat NV 2.0 Two-Bike Platform Rack for inch and a quarter hitches, part number NV12G. The Kuat NV 2.0 can carry up to two bikes and it grips it by a wheel hook up at the front and a wheel strap at the rear. And since it grips it by the wheel at the front, this can fit a wide variety of bikes, anything from mountain bikes to road bikes to alternative frame bikes to kids' bikes. Now, when using a children's bike, you may need the wheel adapter for the Kuat Sherpa and NV bike racks, part number PN2024. One of the best features about this bike rack is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with the bikes still attached. To do that, there's a latch at the front, while holding onto the bike rack, pull that latch towards you and let the bike rack come down.
With it folded down like so, now we have full access to our rear hatch to get what we need. And thanks to the space in-between the bike rack and the bumper, we have plenty of space on either side to do so. And to put it back into its original position and again, gripping it by the bike rack, just lift it back up till you hear the click. Another nice security feature to the bike rack, it has this integrated cable lock which will wrap around your bike's frame to keep it secure to the rack as well, and it is key to like with a locking hitch pin at the base. The wheel bases at the front are able to accommodate tire sizes upto 4 1/2 inches wide.
Now I've gone ahead and taken off the bikes to show you some additional features. Right now we have it in the flat position but I'd also like to point out that it has a nice, raised shank to it, so even if your hitch sits particularly low to the ground, you're not gonna have clearance issues. Now, while it's in the flat position, you can still have your rear hatch access if need be but if you need to park this in your garage or just parking in general without any bikes, this does fold up against the vehicle to give you a little bit of extra clearance in the rear. Again, you come to the front latch, holding onto the bike rack, pull the latch towards you, and push up until you hear the click. Now, another nice feature about this was, when it's in this folded position, if you wish to fold it back out, this also has a plate area for your foot to push down and be able to fold it down easier.
Another feature that sets this bike rack apart from the rest is that it has a built-in repair stand. To extend it out, you open up this latch here at the bottom, extend it to where you need it, and bring it out, and then close the latch back up and it's locked into place. Now it's gonna grip your bike by the frame at this point here by loosening up this knob like so. Once you have it open, it can hold 3/4 inch up to 2 1/2 inch diameter tubes. So we'll take our bike, set it into place, lock it in, and you're good to go.
Now, this is pretty much a tool-free installation on how it attaches to the hitch. We're gonna have a locking pin to hold it into place, then we'll have this anti-rattle knob to tighten up against the hitch, to take all the shake and play out of it while you're driving. Now that we've gotten over some of the features of the bike rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We'll first lift our bike rack up and insert it into our inch and a quarter hitch, then we'll line up the pin holes. Once we got 'em lined up, we'll take our pin and slide it through and then take our lock and just push it onto place and it's locked in. We also have our dust cover on to make sure we don't get any road grime in our lock. Now to completely secure to the hitch, we'll go ahead and tighten up our anti-rattle knob, and as I'm doing this you'll notice that it'll take the shake out of the bike rack in the hitch. With our bike rack secured into the hitch, now we can actually fold it down. You can either pull up on the handle here or push down on this area here like so and then pull it flat until you hear the click. With our bike in the loading position, we'll go ahead and fold out our wheel hook, lift up to here, and we'll push this button at the top to release it, push it all the way front, then we'll open up our rear wheel strap, just push the tab at the top of it and that will release it, go ahead and lift our bike up, setting our front wheel on the wheel cradle. Now, we'll go ahead and bring our wheel hook up to hold our bike into place while we get our rear wheel strap situated, we bring it up to about here, and just push it down until it can't click anymor
