The African Internet Exchange Point (IXP) landscape has been growing over the past decade, with more than 40 IXPs now operating across the continent. These IXPs are essential for enabling local interconnection, lowering latency and bandwidth costs, and enhancing the performance and dependability of the Internet. Although there has been progress, the IXP landscape in Africa is still very uneven, with some nations and areas facing infrastructure or interconnection issues. Despite these obstacles, the development of new IXPs and the extension of current ones has led to considerable advancements in the African IXP scene in recent years.
Join us for an exciting panel discussion featuring representatives from some IXPs across Africa. During this webinar, we will explore the history, challenges, and opportunities facing African IXPs and their role in enabling digital transformation across the continent.
Our panelists will offer distinctive perspectives on their individual IXP journey, including the implications of local content creation, and the difficulties of constructing infrastructure and attracting network operators to connect to the IXP facility. You will learn firsthand about IXPs in Africa, with a focus on how these institutions are influencing the direction of the continent's digital landscape.
Discussion topics will include:
1. Challenges faced by African IXPs, including funding, infrastructure, and regulatory hurdles.
2. The role of IXPs in enabling digital transformation in African economies.
3. Collaboration and partnerships in building a strong IXP ecosystem in Africa.
4. The future of African IXPs, including emerging trends and technologies.
At the end of the webinar, participants will have the chance to engage with the presenters and ask questions.
