On December 5th 2015, ScottishPower Transmission held its Annual Connection Summit in Edinburgh
Over 50 stakeholders including developers, representatives from local councils, Scottish Government, the GB System operator and Ofgem gathered to discuss the collective challenges we face connecting new generation, especially in light of the new UK Governments announcements on renewable subsidies, new nuclear and competition in onshore transmission.
We provided an update on major projects, programmes and consenting and encouraged engagement from our stakeholders about the challenges facing them today. We also emphasised the responsibilities to ensure we build the necessary infrastructure to accommodate a realistic level of new generation capacity.
The day also included information on our future networks programme and highlighted the potential opportunities this may provide for improving connections. We were delighted to welcome guest speakers Chris Stark, Head of Electricity, Scottish Government and John Twomey, Commercial Contracts Manager, National Grid.
