About 2 hours before the Royal Variety Performance was to take place at the London Palladium, a horde of people came screaming down the street from Oxford Circus tube station where gunfire had apparently been heard.
Those of us waiting outside the stage door entrance got hurried into the equipment loading bay and the infamous big steel doors were closed behind us.
There were only about 10 of us in there with a couple of security but one of the women was getting quite hysterical with fear so I had to calm her down by rubbing her arm.
After about 10mins, the police advised us to move up into the theatre itself, so an usher came and took us up to the seats and handed out water.
Not there long before a top bod from the police came on stage to calm folk & update us on the sutuation.
As this was a Royal event, you can imagine that the place was swarming with security within minutes to look after the wellbeing of the celebs that were due to perform.
The likes of Seal & Miranda Hart were just milling around in the orchestra pit.
Gotta say, it was quite a scary experience but unique in that we were privy to what goes on behind the scenes when there is a lock down in a suspected terrorist situation.
Turns out it was nothing to do with terrorism anyhoo and just some fools fighting.
The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge turned up a couple of hours later and the show went on in good old fashioned stiff upper lip style! 😀
