In today’s world, it’s hard to imagine that there are still some politicians who don’t know how to use social media for professional branding.
The importance for political campaigns is greatly due to three unique facets of the social media environment.
First, social media is ubiquitous. The vast majority of the people you know have social media accounts, and they can access those accounts via their smart phones.
Second, social media platforms are designed to encourage not only the creation of user-generated content, but the sharing of that content as well. Any time political candidates do anything that someone deems noteworthy, or perhaps we should say, “SHARE-worthy,” someone records or reports on that activity.
Finally, because people feel satisfaction when others notice, praise, or share their social media content, they often try to post content that gains the most attention. In the political world, that’s usually negative content.
Politicians who fail to create strong social media brands have a hard time fighting negative social media content.
When politicians ignore social media, they ignore the most Powerful Marketing Influencers of our day.
