The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is ramping up enforcement after Global News reported rampant fare evasion at one of the city’s busiest transit hubs.
The TTC has said it expects to lose $123 million to fare evasion across the system this year, on subways, buses and streetcars.
Global News witnessed individuals avoiding the station entrances at Eglinton Station in order to not pay the $3.35 public transit fare.
The city has stepped up enforcement at the station, declaring it a “hot spot” for fare evasion. But as Sean O’Shea reports, the problem is popping up elsewhere.
