This is a 'fly on the wall' account of the behaviour of a pair of Red Foxes Vulpes vulpes vixens in a suburban garden on an October night. Much of the film is an intimate portrayal of some of their gentler moments when they are resting but there is some rather half-hearted conflict when the the older vixen is seen off by the other vixen on a couple of occasions. The latter may be recognised by her lighter build, a narrower head with a sharp nose, whiter fur inside her ears and most obviously by the fluffy white tip to her tail. Since the film was made these skirmishes have become a bit more serious as the mating season approaches and it must be said that the older vicen is a very tolerant recipient of these onslaughts. Although she will bite in retaliation if attacked she backs off out of the younger vixen's way if possible. For anyone with an interest in these beautiful mammals David has just published two 90 page photographic books entitled 'Red Foxes' with identical content but at different sizes and quality. These may be previewed in full at: [ Ссылка ] for the large photographic paper reproduction and: [ Ссылка ] for the small softcover equivalent. Many of the photographs may also be seen on Twitter at: @davidelement1. Note that the gender of the older vixen referred to in the original title of this film has needed to be altered (as indeed have the personal pronouns in the accompanying text) as this fox unexpectedly produced a first litter at the ripe old age (for a fox) of four!
