I've been looking for an alcohol burner to use in my Esbit Solid Fuel Cookset and even though there isn't a lot of headroom in this potstand/wind deflector I thought I would try my Evernew Titanium Alcohol Stove with it. The distance between the outer/lower jets and the bottom of the pot is about .75" (19.2 mm) so this is a bit short of the 1" I usually strive for.
I also recieved an interesting comment from yacrafter, commenting, "A quick look on ebay, I found this stove for 50 bucks...way over my head...I don't see any difference than one of my homemade stoves that I make from recycled cans...am I missing something?"
yacrafter is correct that the Evernew Titanium Alcohol Stove is rather expensive, even on ebay. But if you watch for low starting bids it is possible to get one relatively cheap. I paid $33.17 plus shipping for mine.
As to if yacrafter is "missing something" I think using soda can burners is up to the individual. Yes they are cheap to make but then they are cheap to use. I've stopped making soda can stoves because they just didn't hold up in the long run. If I make a burner it's usually a much easier-to-make carbon felt burners which hardly ever go wrong of break down. Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion, nothing more.
Here are some specifications for the Esbit Solid Fuel Cookset:
Material: Hard anodized aluminum
Capacity: 19 1/2 oz. (2.4 cups)(576.6 ml) Note: pot has volume indicator markings on the inside
Weight: 7.01 ounces (198.7 grams) Note: I removed fuel tray
Diameter: 3.75 inches (95.5 mm)
Height (packed): 3.65 inches (93.6 mm)
Height (un-packed): 6.0 inches (150 mm)
Note: Normally uses solid fuel, like Esbit. I'm looking for an alcohol burner to use with this.
Unfortunately the Evernew Titanium Alcohol Stove - Esbit Solid Fuel Cookset combination didn't work, but now we know. I guess I should make a short carbon felt burner to try in this set. 8-)
I thank yacrafter for the comment,
and I thank you for watching my videos,
Hiram
