The first day is the celebration of the patron of the area San Fermin who was beheaded in France. At midday in the town square and surrounding side streets, everyone wears white shirts and trousers, red sash and carries a red neckchief. At midday, everyone raises their chiefs as a sign of respect to the patron before wearing them around their neck for 10 days after!! People in the crowd and on all balconies in the area throw sangria, water, ticker tape and flour over the baying crowds!!
