On Jan 3, Indonesian rescuers mounted a desperate search for about a dozen missing people, as waters began to recede in parts of Jakarta. At least 43 people have died after the city was hit by flash floods and landslides, sparked by torrential rains that began on New Year's Eve. The authorities have warned of extreme weather continuing until Jan 7, and heavy rainfall lasting through mid-February. The government plans to start cloud seeding to prevent approaching rainfall from pounding the region.
