Who are these snipers on the roof and how do you become one?

Well these guys are from the Special Operations Division of the Secret Service, specifically The Counter Sniper Team.

This is a highly sought after and extremely hard role to get.

First you have to get into the uniformed division usually requiring you to have military or law enforcement experience, qualify for top secret clearance and be in peak physical and mental shape. Amongst a whole load of other requirements.

Then you need to complete 29 weeks of uniformed division training including the likes of specialized firearms, advanced driving, access control training and more.

After serving in this role for at least 2 years you can then apply for the counter sniper team but you’ll need to prove you’ve had one of these seven specialized qualifications or training in the military or law enforcement.

Then you have to complete an 11 week counter sniper selection and basic training.

Once in you’ll work in teams of two, a wind caller, helping to spot the target whilst providing information on how to aim to counteract the wind and other conditions, and the actual sniper, who is also looking for threats and who inevitably pulls the trigger.
