In this episode we are going to be investigating how the way we grow and produce food might change in the future. In 2050, just 30 years away there will be ten billion people on the planet, which is a lot of mouths to feed and the intensive way we have been producing food combined with climate change means there will be less viable land for us to grow food on in the first place.
The good news is that finding ways to produce more sustainable food now can make a real difference. According to scientists, diet is the single biggest way for people to reduce their environmental impact, even more so than how they travel. In practice this will probably mean reducing the amount of meat we eat, eating more seasonally and buying more food locally or even growing your own. But what are the challenges of feeding the over populated city of the future?
We speak to food expert Aoife, and chef Max La Mana as well as visiting an indoor farm and a local community growing project.
