Learn more about how current artists and educators draw inspiration from the natural world and adopt sustainable practices as a part of their artistic output during The Fiber Revolution, a Surface Design Journal Party Textile Talk on April 20 at 2 pm ET. Rebecca McNamara discusses Radical Fiber: Threads Connecting Art and Science, an exhibition she curated for the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College. Kintra Fabrics CEO & co-founder Billy McCall draws from his passions for surfing and polymer science to create new materials from scratch that perform like traditional synthetics but can naturally degrade in aerobic environments. Elizabeth Kozlowski, Surface Design Journal Editor, also provides an overview of the Fiber Revolution Journal issue.
Surface Design Journal is a quarterly print publication that explores the world of contemporary fiber arts. International in scope, articles focus on contemporary textile and fiber-based art and design through various concepts, applications, processes, and materials. Available in print and digital editions, the Surface Design Journal is included with every membership to the Surface Design Association.

Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt: "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA now has over 4,200 members: artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators, and corporate sponsors. With access to our museum-quality exhibition program, SAQA members challenge the boundaries of art and change perceptions about contemporary fiber art.
As a part of SAQA’s dynamic creative community, members can take their artwork and career to the next level. We offer a wide range of exclusive resources, mentorship programs, and professional opportunities.
In addition, SAQA documents the art quilt movement – our publications include full-color exhibition catalogs, the Art Quilt Quarterly magazine, and our new book, Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation.
