A powerful earthquake hit northern Greece on Saturday, injuring at least 20 people, wrecking scores of houses and cutting power and telephone lines
The quake registered 6.6 on the Richter scale.
With its epicentre in the village of Siatistas, the earthquake was the biggest recorded in the Kozani region of northern Greece, just west of Salonika.
The Athens Seismological Institute (ASI) said the earthquake registered 6.6 on the Richter scale, the biggest quake recorded in the Kozani region west of Salonika, and its epicentre was near the village of Siatistas.
Aftershocks rattled the area after the midday quake and a strong tremor of five on the Richter scale jolted the region, causing some panic, about three hours later.
The government prefect's office in Salonika, Greece's main northern city, said 200 tents were being rushed to Kozani.
Local officials reported serious damage in numerous villages and said the worst hit were between the agricultural towns of Kozani and Grevena.
