WHY DO MY EARS ITCH:
Before I go into any finer details, it is important to remember that it's never a good idea to put anything in your ears, no matter what the source of the itching is. You risk damaging your inner ear, which includes the small bones that aid hearing.
Let’s start with Ear Infections. Itchy ears can be the result of an infection or a warning sign that one is on the way. Ear infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, and viruses usually during or after a cold or flu. Infections can also arise if there is a build-up of earwax or if there is water trapped in the ear.
Fungal ear infections also known as otomycosis are more common in warmer climates, and in the UK they occur more often in summer than winter, fungi prefer moisture and warmth to grow. Having diabetes or a weakened immune system may make you more susceptible to otomycosis. Common symptoms for this are: ear itching, smelly discharge, redness, pain, flaky skin and swelling.
Dry ears. Ears normally generate earwax and oil to keep the ear clean and healthy. Excessive ear cleaning can remove wax from the ear and dry it out, producing severe itching. Some people may not create enough ear wax on their own, resulting in dry ears. People who suffer from dry ears may see flakes of dry skin around their ears.
Earwax Blockage. Earwax build-up can make a person's ears itchy and affect their hearing. Earwax is produced by the ears to keep them clean and to protect the inner ear from infection. Earwax normally flows out of the ear, taking dead skin cells and debris with it, eventually drying out and falling away.

Hearing Aids. Because of their plastic coating, hearing aids can cause itchy ears. Some people may be sensitive to the material or have a slight allergic reaction to it. If water becomes trapped behind the hearing aid, people may have itchy ears. If a hearing aid causes an itchy ear as a result of the pressure, a professional can remould the hearing aid to make it fit better.
Swimmer’s Ear. Acute otitis externa is a condition that develops when water becomes trapped in the ear. Because it often affects swimmers, this condition is sometimes known as swimmer's ear. Bacteria can grow and infect people in the trapped water. Swimmer's ear causes itching in the ear. People suffering with swimmer's ear may also experience the following symptoms: ear pain, inflammation around the ear, discomfort in the neck, face, or head, the ear feeling obstructed, some discharge from the ear and difficulties hearing.

Skin Conditions. The final common cause of itchy ears is quite simple really. People who have skin conditions, most of the time also experience itchy ears.
