DeepL vs Google Translate - Which Language Translator is Better?
Google Translate is the world's most popular translator and it's free to use. In December 2022, Google Translate supported 133 languages. So it allows you to translate text from almost any language into almost any other language.
Although Google Translate's effectiveness greatly depends on the text and the language, it is the most popular translation site. The website translates between different languages automatically and offers a text box that can handle texts of all sizes.
DeepL supports 29 languages. This is much less than the number of languages supported by Google Translate. DeepL is free to use but you can translate up to 5000 characters at a time. DeepL Pro Starter package costs a few euros per month and is good enough for most people.
With DeepL Pro you can translate as much as you like without restriction on translation volume or number of characters per translation. DeepL Pro also includes many other useful features.
Since DeepL contains far fewer languages than Google Translate, it is difficult to compare the two in that sense. DeepL cannot translate Korean to Somali.
These are the languages supported by DeepL.
But if these languages are enough for you, DeepL is a better alternative to Google Translate.
I'm not saying that Google Translate is a bad translator at all. It's actually surprisingly good and almost as good as DeepL. Google Translate's translations have improved a lot in recent years.
I am Finnish and I compared a few texts of a few hundred words in both translators, translating the text from English to Finnish. As Finnish is a difficult language and I found out that DeepL translates a bit better than Google Translate.
There were minor grammatical errors in the text translated by Google Translate here, while DeepL was able to create natural sentence structures with hardly any errors.
Perhaps both translators would have translated the text equally well if the language pair had been English and German, for example.
There are many reasons why you might want to translate a language into another language.
Maybe you want to translate an article or text from a foreign language into your own language to make it easier to understand, you may want to translate foreign language articles into another language for your own blog or any other publication, perhaps you want to translate an email written in your own language into another language, for example English, so that the recipient can understand it.
