This is the Setup that I like to use with Compiz on a Low to Mid-Range Computer.

In the example I was using Linux Mint 11 (Katya - 64-bit Gnome Edition), however you may use most Linux Distributions (must support Compiz), to get this setup. Most popular Distributions use Compiz.

This is not recommended for really old Hardware, or really bottom of the pile Hardware, because tinkering with any Compiz Settings can really make just running the Operating System hard on Resources.
