Timing vs Pole Count is covered at 8:43
Do you need to change the motor timing of your brushless setup? The short and quick answer to this is 19/20 times, no you don't. Most ESC manufactures offer a speed control that can handle the majority of the motors out there. The question then becomes, when do you alter the timing of your brushless motor?
The timing of your brushless motor is altered for 3 primary or key reasons.
1) The brushless motor and ESC are not operating correctly
2) To increase the performance of your setup
3) Increase the efficiency, run time or decrease the temperatures.
In the video we cover these 3 reasons in more detail. The one that stands out the most is when the motor and ESC are not operating correctly.
If you are accelerating your motor and at high RPM (more common for high pole outrunners) the motor is making a screeching sound, chances are the timing is not correct. In order to correct this synchronization issues, you must increase the motor timing.
