In Episode 7 of Shawn & Shannon’s Diary of One Podcast, we explore my books, 80 Etudes for the Practicing Guitarist: A Modern Method, Book I. This episode dives into Etudes 1-20, designed as play-along exercises available on GotChops.nyc. Each etude is platformed with videos at three tempos, providing guitarists with the tools to refine or maintain their playing.
These exercises focus on 8th notes, triplets, 16th notes, sextuplets, and 32nd notes, offering a linear approach across each string while covering the first octave of the fretboard. I also demonstrate the benefits of my self-coined Adjacent Fingering Method, showcasing how these etudes build or maintain speed, accuracy, and dexterity.
The etudes embrace the 5 T’s of music mastery: Tone, Touch, Time, Taste, and Technique, offering a comprehensive practice routine for any player. Although crafted for guitarists, these etudes will eventually be developed for all stringed instruments, such as ukulele, violin, viola, and more. Future collections will include smaller etude sets specifically tailored for these instruments.
If you’re ready to elevate your playing and embrace novel approaches to music practice, this episode is for you! 🎸
