Has this ever happened to you?
It’s pretty common for Starbucks Baristas to misspell names, even the really easy ones like Rachel. So the question is do they do it on purpose for the free marketing, is the chain really just playing a prank on everyone?
Well, either the higher ups didn’t direct baristas to misspell names or they are just not admitting.
“We have never asked or directed any of our partners to misspell names of our customers for any reason,” a Starbucks spokesperson said. “Writing names on cups is a fun tradition born out of the relationship and interaction between our employees and customers. Our [baristas] aim to do their best when it comes to spelling the names of our customers, though at times it can be tricky.” Sure, Starbucks. We TOTALLY believe you…
Starbucks corporate might not agree to it being an official policy, but there’s no doubt that those misspelled names generate a lot of free marketing through social media. Let’s be real though, if this was all planned out by Starbucks corporate, this would be genius!
The likely reason that baristas get your name is wrong is that they are just insanely busy most of the time and if they asked every person in line how to spell their name, it would take a long longer for people to get coffee.
