Enjoy this 60 second video showcasing some highlights of beautiful Sremski Karlovci in Serbia - city of vineyards & culture! Situated between the beautiful Fruška gora mountain and the powerful Danube river, Sremski Karlovci is a charming town with rich cultural heritage and long tradition of wine making.
The Roman Emperors and Danube Wine Route, with its Danube and Adriatic Trails, extends through nine European countries and it is a network of sub-destinations, created around individual archaeological sites, locations, places and buildings, which are monuments to the leadership of the Roman emperors in Late Antiquity. The wine part of the Route incorporates the regions which continue the tradition of wine production begun in Roman times. For the indigenous peoples, who lived and worked alongside of the Roman soldiers, one can infer that a way “to act Roman” and in a certain sense “to be Roman” was to acquire a taste for this new beverage from the Mediterranean world.
The Route was certified as a European Cultural Route by the European Institute for Cultural Routes (EICR).
