Jatayu theme park in lepakshi has been recently built near Veerabhadra temple and Nandi statue. It was not there during my last visit to Lepakshi in 2012. It is located around 120 km from Bangalore and would be a good candidate for a day trip or weekend one day trip to Lepakshi.
Entry fees: Rs 10 per person
Timings: 9 AM to 6 PM
Jatayu (Eagle) is related to the Hindu epic of Ramayana. When Ravan abducted Sita and was taking her to Lanka, Jatayu came to rescue Sita and gave a fight. But ravan greviously injured Jatayu and it fell down at Lepakshi. When Ram came and saw Jatayi he said Le Pakshi which in Telugu means rise bird.
The Jatayu statue has been placed on a stone boulder on a free holding hillock. There is a small climb on the stairs to reach the top. On the top you can find signs of old workmanship and you will get a good birdseye view of the surrounding area. You will also get to Veerabhadra swamy temple from here and Nandi statue from here. Be careful of little monkey menace. Do not display any food or water bottles and manage your hand bags etc carefully.
Watch the earlier two videos of the Lepakshi series to know about the other places of interest like Veerabhadra temple and Nandi statue. Also, about to reach Lepakshi.
