He broke his arm at work.
He went to a municipal hospital emergency room here in New York City.
They took x-rays.
They told him his arm was fractured.
They told him the emergency room doctor would set his fracture and put his arm in a cast.
What did he know?
He didn't know what type of experience the emergency room doctor had in setting a fracture. Yet, he trusted these people. He expected they knew what to do.
They told him he simply needed to be in a casted in order for the fracture to heal.
What did he know?
He allowed his arm to be casted.
The emergency room doctor told him to follow-up in four weeks to get his cast changed. That's what he did.
At four weeks, they removed his cast, took an x-ray and then re-casted his arm.
When they took the cast off he noticed his arm looked like a roller coaster. It wasn't straight and flat the way it had been before he broke it.
He raised his concerns with the clinic doctor.
What he said was remarkable.
But this young man didn't know any better.
He trusted these people.
