The Hellendoorn Rally was the most important and prestigious rally to be held in the Netherlands and the 1985 event took place over 25 stages, covering a distance of 414km. It counted as the third round of the West European Cup and a total of 94 entrants competed in 1985, including Jan van der Marel in the Opel Manta 400, Gunnar Pettersson in the Audi 80 Quattro and Bo Sandin in the VW Golf GTi.
