In my local area, the moon covered about 85% of the sun at the peak of the Annular Solar Eclipse on October 14, 2023. During that time, the sky darkened a bit, and some birds like European Starlings (Sturnus vulgari) and Scissor-tailed Flycatchers (Tyrannus forficatus) flocked to the trees, as if seeking safety. I didn't hear any crickets start to chirp, as I did during a Full Eclipse that I witnessed a few years back, but I did notice how the outline of the Eclipse shows up in the pinholes of light in the shadows. Here, you can see that effect through the leaves of a Pecan tree (Carya illinoinensis) -- with a couple of the fruits on the ground, too -- at Cullinan Park, in Sugar Land, TX, USA.
