For the first time since 2004, NASCAR races at Rockingham Speedway in Rockingham, North Carolina. Formerly the North Carolina Speedway, the track was closed in 2004 after its only remaining Cup date was moved. Andy Hillenburg bought the track at auction in 2007, promising to some day restore the track to racing condition. Five years and several million dollars later, NASCAR has returned to the track that has produced champions such as Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt. Kasey Kahne's second race as a Sprint Cup driver was at this track in 2004, the last time NASCAR raced here. Kahne lost by 1/100th of a second to Matt Kenseth, who would go on to win a championship that year. Finishing a little bit of unfinished business, Kasey Kahne won the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 here on Sunday April 15th, 2012.
