Andrew Agnelo Telles passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024. He was born on April 27, 1939, in Goa, India, to Joaquim and Virginia Telles. A loving husband to Filomena for over 50 years, devoted father to Brenda (Ian), Carol, and Diana, and beloved grandfather to Brandon, Brianna, Christian, Celsa, and Cayden. He was also a cherished brother to Sebastina (Casmiro), Christalina (Miro), and Francis (Angela), and brother-in-law to the late Braga Piedade (Inacio), the late Elias (Barbara), and the late Magdalena (Joao Menino). Andrew was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Andrew spent his childhood in Cortalim, Goa, until 1954, when his family moved to Nairobi, Kenya. As a young boy, he found joy in sports, valued the camaraderie of friends and community, and excelled in mathematics. He was also a gifted singer who occasionally composed music of his own, as well as acting in Konkani Concerts. In 1969, Andrew married Filomena, and together they welcomed their first two daughters, Brenda and Carol. In 1971, they immigrated to Canada, where their third daughter, Diana, was born four years later.
Known for his sharp wit and boundless generosity, Andrew had an exceptional ability to bring laughter and warmth to those around him. He adored his grandchildren, who never failed to bring a smile to his face. He cherished singing and listening to Konkani music, a passion that remained close to his heart throughout his life. Minguel Rod alongside English music singers like The Beatles and Elvis Presley were his favourites. Ever the optimist, he also eagerly purchased weekly lottery tickets, always dreaming of hitting the jackpot.
Andrew was instrumental in helping countless newcomers adjust to life in Canada, offering them guidance and support. Despite his life abroad, he remained deeply connected to his Goan heritage, with a remarkable knowledge of its history and traditions. He loved his wife’s shrimp curry, fish ambot tik and sorpotal. While being a proud Goan-Canadian, he also held a special fondness for Buffalo—the Bills, the Sabres, and the peaceful sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, which he often visited.
Andrew was a devout Catholic whose faith was the cornerstone of his life. He prayed daily, attended church regularly, and found immense comfort in the teachings and intercession of St. Francis Xavier, his favorite saint. His unwavering devotion served as a guiding light for his family and those around him, inspiring them with his steadfast belief and trust in God
His passing will be deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved him.
