Italian police have seized some 14 tonnes of amphetamine Captagon pills from Syria worth around €1 billion Euros in what they described as one of the world's largest single hauls of the drug.
Investigators said they have impounded three containers full of paper cylinders for industrial use at the southern Italian port of Salerno, with about 84 million pills inside.
Captagon is one of several brand names for fenethylline hydrochloride, a drug compound belonging to the family of amphetamines which can inhibit fear and ward off tiredness
Captagon is popular in all the Middle East countries where its production was initially concentrated in Lebanon and the Islamic State group sells it to finance its activities, police said in a statement.
