Thapelo Amad has resigned as Johannesburg mayor, just hours before he was due to face a motion of no confidence. Gauteng ANC Chairperson Panyaza Lesufi made the announcement on behalf of the governing coalition last night. Amad was elected into office in January, following a successful no-confidence motion in the DA's Mpho Phalatse.
