Hemodialysis is a prescription given by the nephrologist and it depends on individual patients. Throughout the world they recommend atleast 12 hours a week minimum of hemodialysis. But individually some patients may require little more duration of hemodialysis because the toxin removal should be adequate in their body. At least we recommend minimum of 12 hours a week and 4 hours of each session. It is done as three times a week, almost comes to alternate days as a hemodialysis. Some people we do a prolonged session of dialysis called SLED, Sustained Low Efficiency Dialysis which is done in the presence of low blood pressure where we do it nearly six to eight hours of dialysis in those situations. So those are the special situations where we do it for these patients and definitely it depends on the nephrologist how to design that prescription for an individual patient.
