TAIPEI, TAIWAN — A 15 year old male high school student was rushed to hospital for a 3-inch gash after bumping into an unknown individual inside the Taipei Metro System. He received nine stitches for the long gash in his side.
Mass Rapid Transit staff were able to identify the individual after checking security footage, they reported the 28-year old man to police.
Police were able to locate the 28-year old man, identified by his last name Wu, who worked as a chef at an Italian restaurant. That day Chef Wu had wrapped a 15-inch kitchen knife in a cardboard sheaf to take him, unfortunately the knife had slipped out inside the chef’s bag. When Wu bumped the student he’d accidentally cut the student when the knife pierced the bag and the student’s shirt.
After a spree killing on the Taipei Metro System just last year that claimed four lives and injured 24 other individuals, the public is still on edge.
Wu sincerely apologized for his carelessness to the student, his family, the media, and the public as well as any fears that may have been sparked that another spree killer was on the loose. Wu said he had no intentions of injuring anyone and said he would take better care in the future.
