Yūma is shorter than the average for his age range. He has white hair and red eyes. It is later revealed that his hair was originally black and his body had stopped growing since he was 11 years old because it was made out of trion, thus explained his short stature[5].

He wears a blue suit top and gray bottoms traditional of Japanese high school students. When not in his trion body or school uniform, he usually wears a purple hoodie with a paw symbol and the text "UMA" (which stands for "Unidentified Mysterious Animal"), and beige baggy jeans pants.

In Black Trigger mode, Yūma gains a black jumpsuit which Replica can fuse itself with. In C-rank trion body, unlike most other trainees, he gains an all-black uniform, instead of the classical all-white one; it has a black jacket with thick white stripes running down from the sides of his collar to the sides of his sleeves and also around his collar and thin gray stripes in the borders of the zip fastener and collar.

In B-rank trion body, he has a uniform similar to Osamu's, except his jacket's left sleeve doesn't have a shoulder guard. His right arm also has the same design as his left, unlike Osamu's, making his jacket more symmetrical. Also, the black stripes on his jacket's sleeves are thinner and, unlike Osamu's, don't have white stripes in the middle, and the black stripes go over his shoulders and collar. On the sides of his shoulders, he has Tamakoma Branch emblem, surrounded by the stripes. In addition, the sleeves of his jacket somewhat merge with his gloves, and he tucks his pants inside his boots, like when he was a C-rank agent. His Squad's emblem is located on his left chest.

As the stage is Tamakoma Second's decision, Osamu chooses City C, a neighborhood sitting on a hill. It is initially met with surprise, as it would benefit the Sniper-oriented Arafune Squad. However, one of the commentators, Azuma, reveals that this would force Suwa Squad to create an alliance with Tamakoma Second in order to prevent Arafune Squad from getting the advantage. Chika hides while Osamu and Yūma move on the offensive. Yūma goes to attack Hanzaki, but the two are shot at by Tsutsumi. While Yūma dodges the attack, Hanzaki is hit and Bails Out. Tsutsumi attempt to shoot Yūma, but Yūma dodges with his newly-gained Grasshopper and cuts him down. Yūma sets his sights on Hokari, but Arafune intercepts him and fights him with Kogetsu. Eight months before, Arafune had been a renowned Attacker; however, he switched to being a Sniper. Hokari supports his captain, giving Arafune the advantage. However, Sasamori comes intent on defeating Hokari. Osamu circles the War zone, exerting pressure just by being there. Hokari decides to shoot Yūma, even though it means certain defeat at Sasamori's hands. Yūma is injured, and as he thought, Sasamori cuts him and he Bails Out. Yūma tricks Arafune into thinking that he would escape with Grasshopper, but uses the Trigger to launch himself towards his opponent and cut off his feet. Suwa comes to attack, and Sasamori, using Chameleon, traps Yūma for Suwa to get a clear shot, despite the fact that Yūma could stab him. Usami cues Chika to shoot at this moment, saving Yūma, but Arafune uses the opportunityto snipe back, hitting her and she Bails Out. Arafune and Suwa being attacking Yūma, but Osamu appears to shoot the latter down, eliminating them, while the former Bails Out due to trion loss, giving Tamakoma Second the victory (6-2-1).

Tetsuji Arafune (荒あら船ふね 哲てつ次じ, Arafune Tetsuji ?) is a B-rank Sniper (formerly an Attacker) and the captain of Arafune Squad.

Arafune is a light-skinned, lean young adult with messy, medium-length brown hair. He is usually wearing a black cap. He is seen wearing a buttoned shirts and leaving the top button undone.[5][6] At Border's HQ he wears casual clothes, such as a skin-tight black shirt and a light-colored sweater he keeps tied around his waist.

In his trion body, he wears his squad uniform with a turquoise and black cap. He typically wears his uniform jacket zipped all the way up. He is also seen in a flashback wearing a brown long sleeve t-shirt with a Border Logo on the sleeve, along with a black cap, another trion body outfit.

Arafune may come initially across as rude due to his habit of not mincing words and his manner of speaking occasionally being coarse, but he is considered a nice guy by other Border agents, and he was seen speaking harshly only to or about his friends and people who would not get upset. He has a somewhat sarcastic sense of humor. He is fairly sociable, on friendly terms with a good number of Border agents, and he doesn't shy away from offering advice.
