Hi all.... my girls and I were making shirts for Valentines' Day and I thought it would be fun to show what we made and how you can make them too (even if you don't own one of those fancy cutting machines). Last year I learned how to do screen printing using the rolls of vinyl that the craft stores sell. Now Dollar Tree sells the vinyl that I use to make my stencils.... and I'm hooked! The Screen, ink, and squeegee are a little bit of an investment BUT Hobby Lobby puts them on sale for 40% off quite often. I waited for the sale then purchased mine because I like a bargain. I've made tons of custom shirts for my family. If I had paid full price for the screen printing supplies, it would have still been worth it. Usually, I make shirts with just vinyl, or just screen inks... but I started to layer them, and I love the way they look. They look professionally done if I do say so myself lol.
If using these steps to make a shirt without a cutting machine, please make sure you choose a design that is easy to cut out by hand. Cutting the design out on paper is easy. Cutting the design from the vinyl by hand isn't hard to do, but it would be extremely difficult if you had a lot of tiny details. it takes more pressure and more time. Sticking with larger easier to cut designs is your best bet to cutting the vinyl without a machine. I hope you enjoy learning how to make these shirts with us today.
