Sumo is a Japanese traditional ritual ceremony, festival, and it is also Japanese traditional sports. In addition, the Grand Sumo Tournament called "O-zumo" is held as performance to obtain money gifts (prize money) from olden times.
Currently, in the Grand Sumo Tournament which Japan Sumo Association performs, there are six Grand Sumo Tournaments a year: three are held in Tokyo (in January, May and Septembar), one in Osaka (March), Nagoya (July), and Fukuoka (November). A tournament lasts for fifteen days, each "Rikishi" Sumo wrestler fighting once every day with a different opponent.
If you plan a trip to Japan, how about enjoying "the Grand Sumo Tournament" which can watch the powerful fight as professional sports and the traditional ceremony as Shinto ritual while eating a "O-bento" lunch and a "Yakitori" grilled chicken.
