Xiaomi is one of the popular smartphone brand in China and all its devices ship with its own proprietary skin called “MIUI”. Just back in May last year, Xiaomi introduced MIUI 8 its latest version of the OS. After MIUI 8, it’s time for new update and Xiaomi already started working on MIUI 9.
According to the reports, Xiaomi already started developing MIUI 9 which will be based on Android 7.0 Nougat firmware. The Chinese smartphone giant made this news official by posting on its forum that it has officially obtained the Android N source code from Google and also asked fans whether they appreciate multi-window support on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
Considering the release date, the update will not happen anytime earlier than June 2017 as Xiaomi still have to release MIUI 9 Beta Update for various Mi & Redmi smartphones. MIUI 8 Global Stable update will be pushed starting from August 16th 2016 so it is expected that the MIUI 9 will be made official somewhere in the second half of 2017.
Xiaomi is always in talk for not providing regular Android updates for its smartphones & tablets. We can consider the flagship smartphone, the Mi4 which was launched back in 2014 running on Android 4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top. After a year, the device upgraded to MIUI 7 but still the smartphone remains on Android KitKat. Hope thing changes with MIUI 9 with both old and new devices being added to the update list.
As we all know MIUI 8 brings some of the cool features like scrolling screenshots, Dual Space, updater Calculator app, Second Space, MIUI Caller ID, integrated payment, and much more. Also the new Gallery app has been updated brings option for video editing and cloud storage. Seeing this we can expect Xiaomi introducing more cool features in its upcoming MIUI 9 update. Some of the expected MIUI 9 features are Multi-window support, Quick-reply from notifications, Optimized Doze Mode, Better RAM Optimization, New Launcher & Themes, Improved Data Saver, Always-on VPN, Call Screening, Dual space, Dual apps and more.
