Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed a new Executive Order that she says will expedite unemployment benefits for tens of thousand of people.
According to the order, Executive Order 2020-76, will allow the state to review only an individual’s most recent job separation, which is the cause of the current unemployment, to determine the individual's benefit entitlement.
More than 1 million unemployed people in Michigan have received benefits from the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, but thousands are still awaiting payments.
