The Catherine Palace is full of magnificent halls, but the Amber Room remains the most popular place for tourists. It was presented to Peter I by the King of Prussia. The room was renovated under Elizabeth Petrovna. 6 tons of amber were spent for wall cladding! The masterpiece was stolen by the fascists during the Great Patriotic War. The interior was completely restored and the visitors' room was opened only in 2003 — for the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.
