While teaching students online in our course recently, the following strategy occurred to me. It even helped one student get an 8.5 on her IELTS Speaking Exam!
Your go-to strategy should be talking about things you love, are passionate about, or at least extremely interested in.
When you talk about these topics, your Pronunciation becomes more relaxed, natural and emotive. Plus, your fluency also increases. Usually, your vocabulary will also become more specific because you are talking about things you know a lot about, and this will raise your vocabulary score.
This strategy helps in so many ways!
For one student, his score increased by 2 band points when he began to talk about his wife. This is the sunshine in his life, and you could tell by how he spoke about her.
For another student, her work as a doctor is her passion. When she was able to work this into her Part 1 and Part 3 answers, her scores jumped dramatically.
Think about what it is in your life that you really care about, and practice talking about this as often as you can in your IELTS answers. And, above all, sound like you care about what you are saying.
